Sarah Scout Presents is delighted to presents Love, work (for KD), an exhibition in honour of Kate Daw – much-loved artist, teacher, mother, wife, sister, friend, collaborator and confidante – whose death in September 2020, during Melbourne’s lockdowns, left a huge hole in the fabric of our art community.
Love, work was one of the many facets of Kate’s wonderfully complex, overarching project Art, work, life, which provided a scaffold for Kate’s critical concerns while acknowledging the impossibility of separating these things – for they were never separate for Kate. Her practice moved effortlessly between the spheres of domesticity and the workplace, the everyday and the imagined, and her community was always at the centre. Since her death, many of her fellow artists – those with whom she worked and those whom she taught – have made works for Kate. Love, work (for KD) brings some of these together and into dialogue with her own late works. The works presented here are intimate, personal, evocative and generous – much like Kate herself.
