Tony Garifalakis's SCUM SALON presents a new suite of the artist's 'SCUM' fabric banner works, together with a limited edition print, across the gallery's salon and office spaces.
SCUM SALON continues the artist's longstanding interest in the disruption and obfuscation of images as a strategy to unsettle their meaning and reading, through both the subversive juxtaposition of image and text, and the deployment of dark and incongruous humour.
SCUM SALON will also feature the artist's newly launched limited edition print, Beyond Good and Evil 2022 – an anarchic yet seamless mash up of Swedish pop group ABBA's album cover art from The Best of ABBA (1975) with the distinctive facial makeup of American rock band KISS. As with Garifalakis's work more generally, SCUM SALON is both deeply unsettling and laugh-out-loud funny – the perfect accompaniment to our troubling times.
