In Refuge, Thompson sings in Bidjara, the endangered language of his heritage. Refuge is a collaboration with British musician and composer James Edward Young, who was a member of Nico's band The Faction. For Refuge — which was recorded in Oxford, United Kingdom, while Thompson was completing his PhD at Oxford University — Thompson reinvents and reenergises Bidjara in the form of a modern pop song. Refuge was included in the Eighth Asia Pacific Triennial (APT) in 2015-16 in Brisbane, Australia.
